YuJa playback quizzes can be used to track how much of a video students have watched. Unlike regular video quizzes, these contain no questions and only track how much of the video a student has watched.
Playback quizzes in YuJa are useful if you must ensure that students watch the majority of a video. You can adjust options to disable their ability to skip forward, but even if students skip forward, this will only give credit if they watched the majority of the video themselves.
Here’s how to create a playback quiz:
Step 1: Open YuJa
- Open Canvas and click YuJa in the global navigation menu (A).
- Click “Manage Media” in the top of the screen to access your videos (B).
Step 2: Find or Upload Your Video
- Locate the video you want to use, or, if your video isn't there yet, click “Upload” to add one from your computer.
Step 3: Create a Playback Quiz
- Mouse over the preview thumbnail for your video and choose “More…”
- Choose “Quizzes” from the left sidebar then click “+ Create Playback Quiz”
- Create a title that will appear in your Canvas Gradebook, and on the item, and set the percent of a video the student must watch to receive full credit.
- Click “Create.”
If you see a list view for your videos instead of a grid, click the three vertical dots on the far right and click “More…”
By default, a student must watch 80% of the video to receive full credit. Alternatively, you can give credit based on percentage watched - meaning, if a student watches half of the video, they receive 50% of the full grade.
Step 4: Editing a Playback Quiz
If you want to prevent students from skipping ahead or allow them to rewatch the video after they’ve completed it, you can edit the quiz to set these options.
- After creating the playback quiz, click “Edit.”
- If prompted, click “Edit this Quiz.”
- Click “Settings.”
- Check the boxes for the settings you’d like to have for the quiz.
- Click “Save,” then click “Save” again.
To keep videos accessible to students, do not disable Video Speed Options. You can “Disable Fast Forwarding” to stop students from skipping ahead, but video speed options help students who process information differently.
To allow students to watch the video after the due date or after they finish watching it, check the box for “Allow Video-Only Playback When Quiz Closed.”
