You might want to assign assignments to individual students, differentiated tags, or specific sections in a course for a number of pedagogical and logistical reasons:
- Support Student Needs (Accessibility and Accommodations): Assigning different due dates or alternative versions of an assignment for students with documented accommodations (e.g., extended time, different format).
- Manage Multi-Section Courses: Instructors teaching multiple sections of the same course can assign different deadlines, content, or instructions tailored to each section’s schedule or modality (e.g., online vs. in-person).
- Facilitate Group or Project Work: Assignments can be assigned to groups or select students working on different projects or topics.
- Enable Differentiated Instruction: Assign to tags to group students by ability level, interest, or learning style and deliver targeted content (e.g., enrichment activities for advanced learners, scaffolded supports for those who need more help).
- Streamline Make-Up work: Assignments can be made available only to students who missed class, need to re-do an assignment, or are completing alternative work due to illness, absence, or other valid reasons.
