“Announcement Created By You” and “Conversations Created By Me” are two notifications you may want to enable, so you receive e-mail copies of announcements you post in a course and messages you send to students through the Canvas Inbox.
Defaults:
- By default, students do receive e-mail notifications for announcements in their Canvas courses, as well as any messages they receive through the Canvas inbox from instructors or other students.
- By default, instructors do receive e-mail notifications for messages they receive through the Canvas inbox from students or other instructors.
- By default, instructors do not receive e-mail notifications for announcements they post in their Canvas courses.
- If your course has multiple instructors, you will receive e-mail copies of announcements that other instructors make in your course.
- By default, instructors do not receive e-mail copies of messages they send through the Canvas Inbox. The sent messages can be found in the “Sent” section of the Canvas Inbox.
To update your notification settings to receive e-mail notifications for announcements and messages you send in Canvas:
- In the Canvas global navigation bar, select “Account” (1) and then select “Notifications” (2).
- The notifications area will open. You can choose whether you’d like to adjust notification settings for your entire account, or select a specific course.
- Select the icon related to the notification you’d like to change. We recommend setting “Announcement Created by You” and “Conversations Created by Me” to “Notify Immediately.” This will send you an e-mail copy of announcements you create and messages you send through the Inbox in Canvas.
- Your notification settings will automatically save, there is no need to select a save button.
