Media ProductionIncorporating media into your course can have a transformative effect on student engagement and learning outcomes.
Using media in your course can help make complex concepts more accessible to students and enhance their understanding by appealing to multiple learning styles. The use of media also promotes active learning, encourages collaboration, and can increase knowledge retention by reinforcing concepts in different ways. Videos in particular can offer real-world examples and foster deeper connections to learning material.

Technology IntegrationIntegrating technology in learning can increase student engagement, foster interactive experiences, and enhance knowledge retention.
QILT has a portfolio of tools related to AI, creative and design, media, interactive learning and collaboration, productivity, surveying, and more. QU’s IT groups manage a number of other tools that support learning as well.
Learning Design and Program/Course Design or RedesignLearning design is the process of intentionally planning, structuring, and organizing educational experiences to achieve specific learning outcomes.
It involves selecting appropriate content, activities, assessments, and technologies that align with the goals of a course or program. Good learning design is important because it ensures that courses are coherent, engaging, and accessible to all learners. It helps educators create learning environments that promote critical thinking, problem-solving, and active participation, fostering deeper understanding and retention of material.
Well-designed courses also support diverse learning styles, encourage interaction, and provide clear pathways for student success, ultimately leading to more meaningful educational experiences and improved academic outcomes.
Quality Matters Course ReviewRegular course reviews are essential for ensuring that course content is current, engaging, and effective.
A Quality Matters (QM) course review by a QILT team member will emphasize:
- Clear learning objectives
- Alignment between course components (assessments, materials, activities)
- Accessibility
- Usability
Through applying the QM framework to your existing course, you can ensure that your course is well-structured, supports diverse learning needs, and meets best practices in instructional design, all of which directly impact student learning, engagement, success, and retention.
Course Accessibility ReviewCreate equitable learning environments that support diverse learners, including those with disabilities, differing cognitive styles, and various learning needs.
A well-optimized course reduces barriers, allowing all students to access, interact with, and benefit from the material in meaningful ways. Our review process evaluates and recommends enhancements using Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles to ensure that your course is both inclusive and adaptable, providing a comprehensive learning experience for all. Inclusivity isn't just a best practice—it's a commitment to educational excellence and student success.
