About
Extra credit in your course is an option that can take a variety of forms, such as offering points for attending an event, volunteering to role-play in class, or providing a small points buffer to reduce anxiety. However, extra credit is not a solution.
For students who need extra credit the most, their attention should be directed to the coursework instead. Extra-credit opportunities also raise equity concerns. Students may have family obligations, jobs, or other responsibilities outside of the classroom.
This training session provides faculty with an overview of how to manage extra credit in Canvas assignments, quizzes, and exams. Participants will learn how to create and apply extra credit opportunities using various methods in the Canvas Gradebook and understand how these affect overall course grades.
