What is Perusall?
Perusall’s flexibility in sourcing reading materials allows instructors to tailor their courses to specific learning objectives and student needs while also considering cost and accessibility.
Perusall is a collaborative e-reading platform designed to enhance student engagement with reading materials. Perusall allows students to read, annotate, and discuss course texts directly within the platform, promoting active learning and deeper comprehension.
Instructors can use Perusall to implement a variety of materials into their courses, including:
- Textbooks from Publishers: Perusall has partnerships with various publishers. The platform allows instructors to assign textbooks directly to students, who then purchase the book through Perusall (typically).
- Open Educational Resources (OER): Instructors can use OER materials in Perusall. OER materials are freely available educational resources at no cost to students.
- Uploaded Materials: Instructors can upload their own materials, such as PDFs, articles, lecture notes, or other documents to Perusall. Students can annotate and discuss the materials within the Perusall platform.
- Public Domain Texts: Instructors can select public domain texts in Perusall. These texts are available for free and can be used at no cost to students.
