Two Best Practices
- Rather than posting the URL address, hyperlink the topic that you would like the user to click on. Why? This method, called descriptive linking, provides users with the proper context of where clicking the link will take them. More importantly, a URL is not as accessible to users with disabilities. That is, a user who is visually impaired (uses a screen reader) will have each character of the URL read to them, impeding their access to the content.
- Set links to open in a new window, making it easier for your users to view the Webpage on either their computer or a mobile device. Why? Links that open in a new window do not require the user to click the back arrow (prevents losing track of the original Webpage).
Optimize Links in Blackboard Learn
- Type the text that you would like to make into a working hyperlink.
- Highlight the text and select Insert/Edit Link.
- Paste your URL into the URL box and set “Open link in…” to “New window”. Then, click save.
- The text you highlighted is now hyperlinked.
