Many departments and programs that have worked with us have a pre-built template you can use to build your course! Templates typically include:
- A Home Page with welcoming visuals and course info
- Instructor Resources for setup guidance and best practices
- A Sample Module with placeholder content and instructions
If your program or institution provides a template via Canvas Commons, follow these steps to import it into your course:
- Open your Canvas Dashboard and select the course where you want to use the template.
- In the action menu (right-hand side), select Import from Commons. If this is your first time accessing Commons, you may need to authorize it. This is OK to do!
- Search for the Template
- Use the search bar at the top to look for your program's or institution’s template.
- Try using keywords like your department name, program abbreviation, or "template" (e.g.,
ADPR/PRR Course Template
,EDL Course Template
). - If your program does not provide a template or a course to copy from, you can use the
Quinnipiac Canvas Course Template (Full Template)
- Preview the Template
- Click the template title to preview its contents, including modules, pages, quizzes, or files.
- Review the details to make sure it matches your needs.
- Import the Template to Your Course
- Click the blue Import/Download button on the right.
- Select the course(s) you want to import the template into.
- Select Import into Course.
- It may take a few minutes for the import to complete. Check back in a bit by going into the course and verify the content has been added.
