Dear Colleagues,
As we approach midterms, the Office of Academic Integrity & Accountability (OAIA) and Quinnipiac Innovations in Learning and Teaching (QILT) would like to share our guidance on academic integrity & accountability and the use of AI detectors.
Please note that AI detectors are not reliable indicators of academic dishonesty and can produce false positives, particularly for English language learners and neurodivergent students. In addition, under FERPA, student work is considered an educational record, which means that entering student work into an AI detector requires written affirmative consent from the student. Please see the attached memo for more information on QU policies and best practices and reach out if you have any questions.
In addition to the memo on the misuse of GenAI and AI detectors, we have also included the OAIA’s “Faculty Guide to Academic Integrity & Accountability”. We hope that both will be beneficial in any instance of a suspected academic integrity & accountability policy violation.
For more information on AI in the classroom, resources on best practices, and tools available to you, visit the QILT AI hub. If you have questions regarding academic integrity or the reporting process, please feel free to contact the OAIA.
Thank you for all you do for your students during this busy time of year!
All the best,
Office of Academic Integrity & Accountability
