What is Parchment Digital Badges?
Parchment Digital Badges “PDB” (formerly called Canvas Credentials), is a digital credentialing tool that is integrated with our learning management system, Canvas to make credential awarding and administration straightforward!
Key features of PDB include:
- Automated Badge Awarding: Digital badges (and certificates) can be automatically awarded based on criteria set in a Canvas course. Award triggers can include module completion, assignment completion, or specific grade achievement. Manual awarding (individual or using CSV upload) is also an option.
- Showcasing and Sharing: Learners can showcase their digital badges within the platform, share them on social platforms like LinkedIn, or embed them in resumes. If learners use PDB through another institution or organization, badges earned at QU will display alongside those achievements in the learner “Backpack.”
- Support for Pathways: The journey to earning a digital badge can be illustrated using a pathway, which serves as a guide for learners moving them through through a sequence, requirements, or prerequisites.
- Skill Tracking: PDB integrates with TalentNeuron to link digital badges with skills demonstrated. TalentNeuron provides learners with information about the skill, such as market labor insights.
If you manage a badge in PDB, the platform offers analytics to gain visibility into badge performance and provide insights to improve outcomes and demonstrate value.
Access and Use Cases
QILT and QU IT teams are still in the implementation phase of PDB. A number of pilot projects have been identified and are in progress. If you are interested in exploring using PDB, reach out to us.
