If you've imported content from Blackboard into Canvas and want to apply elements of our Quinnipiac Canvas course template (such as “Module Overview and Objectives,” “Assignments,” or “Quiz” pages), follow these steps to copy the structure and design from the template into your existing, imported content.
Step 1: Open the Template Page
- Go to your Canvas course.
- In the Modules area or Pages, find the template page you want to use (e.g., Module 1: Overview and Objectives from the template module).
- Click the name of the page to open it.
Step 2: Edit and Copy Template Content
- Click the “Edit” button in the top right corner of the page.
- Select all the content on the page:
- Keyboard shortcuts:
- Windows:
Ctrl + A
to select all, thenCtrl + C
to copy - Mac:
Command + A
to select all, thenCommand + C
to copy - You’ve now copied the full template content (including formatting and layout).
Step 3: Open Your Blackboard-Imported Page
- Find the corresponding page that was imported from Blackboard (e.g., a “Module 1 Overview” page).
- Click the page name to open it.
- Click “Edit” in the top right corner.
Step 4: Paste the Template into Your Page
- Click below the text that exists from Blackboard
- Paste the template content you copied earlier (
Ctrl + V
orCommand + V
). - Copy and paste the existing Blackboard text above the template into the sections of the template
Sometimes Blackboard content brings over extra formatting:
- In the Canvas Rich Content Editor, highlight the pasted content and click the "Clear Formatting" button (T with eraser icon) in the toolbar to remove any unwanted styles. If this button isn’t visible, click the three vertical dots to show all toolbar buttons
- You may need to reapply bold, headings, or other formatting after this step.
Step 5: Save Your Work
- Scroll to the bottom of the page.
- Click the “Save” button (or “Save & Publish,” if you're ready for students to view it).
Repeat the above steps for each page in your module that you'd like to format with the Canvas template (e.g., Overview, Assignments, Quiz Instructions, etc.).
Tips
- If you're using side-by-side browser windows, it may be easier to copy from one page and paste into the other.
- Using the template ensures consistent formatting across all modules and improves accessibility and readability for students.
