About the Studio
The One-Button Studio (sometimes referred to as “OBS”), located in the new School of Business on the Mount Carmel Campus, is being designed with easy operation and versatility in mind.
QILT, QU IT and QU Facilities teams are working to have the studio open in the near future.
Equipment and Capabilities
The reservable studio is planned to be outfitted with:
- 4K PTZ (pan, tilt, zoom) cameras
- Studio lighting
- Professional microphones
- A green screen backdrop
- Set furniture (desk, chairs, etc.)
- Zoom and screen sharing capabilities
- Integration with other commonly used University tools and programs
To accommodate a variety of use cases, the studio is planned to have two separate recording spaces within it:
- A space for recording lecture style videos, with a moveable sit-to-stand desk and chair that can be re-positioned to use the green screen backdrop, if desired.
- A space for recording interview or panel conversations, with two comfortable, low chairs with end tables, and other set design pieces to be determined. This space will not have a green screen backdrop.
The camera positioning, studio lighting, and microphones in both spaces will be pre-set, allowing faculty to efficiently use the studio at their reserved time. Some settings, such as camera zoom or height, will be easily adjustable via the wall panels.
Interested in testing the space out as it develops? E-mail Joel Vanner, QILT’s assistant director for operations, media, and technology.
Operation and Training
Using the guided controls on the studio’s wall panels, faculty will be able to operate the studio’s equipment without needing advanced knowledge or experience.
To support faculty in successful use of the studio, training resources will be created once the space has been constructed and initial tests completed. These resources will walk faculty through operating the equipment, as well as considerations for using video in their courses and best practices to keep in mind.
The process for reserving the space will also be determined and provided in the resources.
Throughout the media planning and production process, faculty are encouraged to connect with QILT’s Assistant Director for Operations, Media, and Technology Joel Vanner, for guidance.
